First Discernment


3.5.3     During postulancy, the first discernment process for membership in OSF,  members will review the Rule of Life, meet with a Spiritual Director, and continue to discern one's desire for membership within The Order of Sustainable Faith. Additionally, a postulant will form a Discerning Community (see § 5.6.5).  

In the Postulancy Cohort, you'll journey alongside others who are discerning their membership and involvement in The Order of Sustainable Faith. 


The Commitments for the Postulancy Cohort are as follows: 

Bi-monthly online chapter meetings.


We'll meet for 1 hour (roughly) twice a month to touch base and connect to the work of discernment and movement through the postulancy period.  There will be a total of 12 meetings over the 6-month postulancy. Participation in 10 meetings is required. Dates are offered when a group of 4 or more participants are ready for postulancy.


Postulancy Cohort Dates will be decided when a cohort has formed.

Monthly meeting with a Spiritual Director. 


You'll meet monthly with a Spiritual Director. We're happy to pair you with a spiritual director in our network. Your monthly meeting with your spiritual director is at the core of your discernment process. You're process of discernment toward The Order of Sustainable Faith will pay particular attention to the invitation you feel toward the particular commitments found in the Rule of Life and the questions posed throughout. 


Regular review and prayer through Invitations & Commitments


Each Monday, we'll post questions and reflections to guide your week, your prayers, and your conversation with your spiritual director, and ultimately, your discerning community. These questions and reflections will form most of the content of our bi-monthly chapter meetings.  The main question during postulancy is:

 Do I want to orient my life, alongside others, around a particular set of shared commitments, in service and submission to the mission of God? . 


Monthly financial membership in support of our commitment to a shared economy.


 Monthly Dues

Our commitment to a shared economy begins in postulancy. These monthly dues allow us to provide spiritual direction & guidance to you during postulancy and journey alongside of you more directly. The Order of Sustainable Faith does not profit through your postulancy process.
